One of our philosophies in life is “make your own fun.” Thank god, because Sudbury certainly wasn’t going to provide us with any on a platter. With Dan on the course is his workmate Leo who flew over from Vancouver. He landed around midnight last night so this was the first time I had seen him since leaving Vancouver in July. Anyhow, I bummed around for the day and when the boys came out we were all keen to go and blow away a few cobwebs at the pub.
We went to the recommended local “Peddlers Pub” for a couple of hours. We both thought it was highly amusing when Leo was asked for his ID (he’s 28). We offered to show ours too, but she didn’t think it was necessary for some reason! The boys were keen to try some new Canadian beer and tried this one “50”. The lady at the bar told us it was because nobody under 50 drank it, but they both seemed to think it was OK. “Better than VB”. Not that its hard! Around 7.30 we thought we would head out for dinner at the Mexican to find out it was closing. Who shuts their restaurant at 7.30pm we asked??? Apparantly just about everyone in Sudbury we found out. We asked the lady to pose for a photo anyhow. We tried the local Italian. Closed too. Geez… This wasn’t looking good and then a sign (well the local YMCA – I had to get a photo of that!!) The boys stopped for a shot at limbo under the local rubber gate that wouldn’t have kept anyone out.
We found the recommended “Laughing Budda” and we were laughing at that stage.. mainly about Sudbury. We had an awesome meal but skipped out on the “cheesy” omlette named the Celine Dion! A few more drinks later we I saw these two bums hanging out “The Night Club”… oh its Leo and Dan.
We headed back to the bar where we were warmly welcomed back by Peter, the weirdo traveling through from the Netherlands (I asked him with a straight face if he felt Amsterdam wasn’t a true representation of his country – I don’t think he got it). Also Sonny the 67 year old who was great and bought us all a round of drinks and some stranger who couldn’t keep her hands of Leo. We had a blast of a night with the locals and made it home just before midnight. Yah for Sudbury!
