4th November, Banff, AB

A fairly quiet and lazy morning. We headed into the township of Banff for a wander round the shops and figured, whilst you are on a good thing stick to it and head we headed back to the sushi train again for lunch…mmmmmm.
We came back to the hotel after lunch to organize ourselves for drinks at the Fairmont Banff Springs. First though as we pulled into the carpark, we noticed the two elk wandering around coming down from the mountain for a nibble on the more accessible grass at the hotel. Dan was most pleased. A drink here (Fairmont Banff Springs) at the Rundle Hall Bar is meant to be a must for both the hotel which is over 100 years old and like a castle nestled in the side of the hills.Whilst the hotel itself is incredibly expensive to stay at, many people like ourselves simply go there to admire the beauty and the views and perhaps have a drink or a bite.

It was so nice to ditch the hiking boots for an afternoon and off we went. We wandered through the beautiful hotel looking at some of the displays and took a seat on a comfortable couch in the Rundle Room. The Fairmont was celebrating 100 years in association with Moet and Chandon and had a book of cocktails incorporating the famous champagne in cocktails. I ordered a “Very Sexy” cocktail and Dan ordered the “French 100”. We felt very decadent with our cocktails overlooking the mountains outside the window. We later ordered more drinks and the afternoon drifted by.
We decided to wrap it up, wandered through the hotels many exclusive stores and finally stopped by the Bow River Rapids to see the sun setting on the mountains. It was spectacular. We later went to dinner at Muk A Muk. Our entrée tasting plate consisted off Elk Pastrami, candied salmon, Bison Sausage to name a few things. It was strange that the Elk we had just seen outside was now on our plate. The hotel kindly upgraded us to another room with mountain views. A nice way to end the day.
