We had to get up at 3.20am this morning in order to ready for our transfer to the airport which would take around two hours. The driver was nearly 40 minutes late. By this time, we were worried that the transfer wasn’t turning up. Dan ran the agent and left a rather abusive message and of course, the transfer turned up straight after.. oops!!
The drive to the airport was long and we were already tired before our day had started. We checked in and then hung around the airport waiting for the plane. It left on time. We flew over Miami which was cloudy and raining. Great we thought, no problems making our connection. Not to be. A plane at our gate was having repairs done and we had to sit on the tarmac for well over an hour waiting for the plane to move on so we could have its gate. By the time we got off the plane, cleared US immigration – again even though we were only transiting – we had missed our flight. We had to queue again for around half an hour and see what flight we could get on. There was another plane leaving that afternoon but it was full. By this stage, we were pretty tired and cranky, and it was my turn to have a go at the poor woman. She then managed to get us on another airline, Cayman Airways, and down to Grand Cayman around 4 hours later than we were meant to. We had to hang around Miami airport (craphole) until our flight finally left.
The skies over Miami at this time had cleared and we took a few photo’s over Miami with the world's longest bridge to the keys.
On landing at the Cayman Islands, our jet engine cover decided to flip 90 degrees and cover the outlet. We thought it to be quite odd and have never seen this before (we have flown in a lot of pressurised metal tubes too!) We arrived at Grand Cayman, cleared customs, got our transfer and arrived at the hotel to be told that they had no reservation for us and they were fully booked. I spoke to Linda in Canada (our travel agent) who advised that she had emailed us last week to advise that this hotel was fully booked and we had therefore been upgraded. We had not checked email in Jamaica so didn’t know. Luckily the hotel is over the road, five star and right on the beach, the Westin Casuarina. It’s gorgeous. So, a nice end to a crappy day. We went over the road for dinner and then called it an early night.
