Travel days are generally the least pleasant parts of any journey. Tan and I didn’t want to leave Belize, but we had to!! We packed and walked down the street. Our covered water taxi filled quickly so we took the open one. Just as quick though a little cooler.
The horizon had clouds and it looked like rain. The spray from the boat and the speed meant we were a little cool. On arrival to the water taxi terminal in Belize City it rained. Ten minutes earlier and we all would have been saturated. Our timing has been perfect and the weather for the entire trip has been absolutely sensational. One shower of rain in our first few days at Playa del Carmen and that has been it!!
Our taxi to the bus terminal was a bit more modern and a lot less fun than the previous taxi ride. In the bus terminal, I saw some pastries in an oven. Meat pies!!! I put the bags under the bus and went straight back to the vendor. I had two and they were good, like very good. I’ve been craving a pie since we left amd the closest thing I have come to a Coffee Chill was a prepared on the spot iced coffee in a servo in Guatemala. Belize – home of pies!!!

We stopped breifly in Orange Walk and I had a quick look at the markets. Not much to see here.
Back into the Spanish saddle again and we are lucky as we know a few words now. At Chetumal, Mel raced to the ticket booth and got an earlier bus than the Intrepid group that essentially follows our GAP itinerary. We we’re very happy to leave an hour earlier than the other group after twelve hours traveling.
