7th December – San Cristobal Del Las Casas, Mexico – Panajachel, Guatemala

Up early this morning for a long drive leaving our nice hotel. We were heading off to Guatemala. We had really enjoyed San Cristobal and were sad to leave. However, our Guatemalan adventure awaited. We caught a bus to the Mexican border (which turned out to be two hours late). Here we went and got our passports stamped for leaving the country, then hopped in a taxi for a few kilometers of no mans land onto the Guatemala border. However, it was market day at the border which meant that it was crazy. There were thousands of stalls and people and cars for the taxi driver to navigate and everyone was beeping their horn. It was in incredible experience. We finally made it to the border office, filled in some paperwork and we were allowed through after a few minutes. We couldn’t believe how easy land border crossings are here (plus we held onto our Mexican 180 day visa, as you never know if you will need it!!). We threw our bags into a private van and we were off. A long drive followed through to Panajachel (pronounced Pana-ha-shell) passing through valleys surrounded by high peaks and the occasional volcano!. We headed out to dinner at a lovely spot with a tree growing in the middle of the room. Whilst our tour leader was keen to kick on for the night we were all to tired and called it a night. BIMBO is the name of the bread company in Guatemala!!!
